We are committed to providing and referring holistic wellness programming and resources to help you thrive at UChicago and beyond. We recognize that self-care and a healthy social life are critical to your academic success and personal wellbeing. Our Wellness and Social programming is based upon UChicago’s Seven Facets of Wellness model, which seeks to promote a balanced approach to student life. We work closely with a variety of campus partners to design our programming, and we encourage and promote participation in other wellness and social programs on campus. All of our Wellness and Social events are exclusively for students in MAPSS, CIR and the Computational Sciences MA program.

Workshops and Sessions

Working with campus and community partners, we offer several 60 to 120-minute workshops and sessions on a variety of wellness topics each quarter. This year’s (or previous year’s) workshops include Time & Stress Management, Positive Psychology & Winter Wellness, Mindful Meditation, Sleep Health, art therapy workshops (in partnership with Hyde Park Arts Center), Yoga Nidra, and Mindful Movement.

Quarterly Stress Relief Breaks

Each quarter, we hold a Stress Relief Break during midterms in the student lounge (5730 S. Woodlawn) to help you to relax and recharge. These breaks include free back massages by professional therapists, a resource and giveaway station, snacks, an art and kinetics station, and a special seasonal activity.

Excursions

Taking time away from campus to enjoy new experiences, gain perspective, meet other MA students and reduce stress can help boost productivity and prevent fatigue. Past excursions have included a haunted bike hike through downtown Chicago, a Ski Trip to Cascade Mountain, ice skating at the Midway Plaisance, a Chicago White Sox Game, an outing to Starved Rock State Park, and river rafting in central Illinois.
