I came to Chicago to broaden my horizons in the social sciences. MAPSS was an ideal program to achieve this goal because it allowed me to discover different disciplines and to interact with students and experts in many fields. While in MAPSS, I focused on International Political Economy and Public Policy. Important courses that I took included Political Economy for Public Policy, Statistical Methods of Research, Labor Market Institutions and Unemployment, and Political Economy & Institutions. My MA thesis dealt with “Inter-Industry Labor Mobilty and Individual Attitudes towards Globalization”. It was supervised by Jong Hee Park from the Department of Political Science. After MAPSS, I was a Carlo Schmid Fellow at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, worked at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and for the Free University of Berlin before moving to Hamburg, Germany, where I now work as Networking & Alumni Relations Officer for the Joachim Herz Stiftung, a large nonprofit foundation active in the promotion of education, science and research. MAPSS helped me get to where I am today by putting within my reach many exciting academic and professional opportunities that I may otherwise not have had, or of which I may not have been aware.
