I entered MAPSS intending to study political and social psychology, however while in MAPSS my interests evolved into a focus on cultural psychology and mixed-method approaches to psychological research. These interests were influenced by several courses, including Interview Methods, Moral Development & Comparative Ethics, and Debates in Stereotyping and Prejudice. This coursework complimented field experiments I was also conducting in Dr. Sian Beilock’s laboratory. My MAPSS thesis focused on same-sex parents raising young children and how their attitudes toward gender norms affected their experience of parenting. My thesis advisor was Dr. Miwa Yasui, who sits in the Social Service Administration. Currently I am a PhD student in Organizational Behavior at Harvard Business School, where I am studying the affects of diversity within groups and institutions. Coming out of MAPSS I was dedicated to a mixed-methods approach to psychological research, and before I graduated, I accepted a job as the Lab Manager at Columbia Business School’s Behavioral Research Lab. I found that my dedication to mixed-methods psychological research was positively received in Business School compared to traditional psychology departments. As such I applied to PhD program in Business Schools, and with the kind help of the Faculty in the MAPSS programs I was accepted to Harvard!
