MAPSS Preceptor Research Fund

Dear Fellow MAPSS Alumni,

One of our strongest memories of the program is the debt we feel toward the remarkable preceptors who put so much skill and effort into supporting and encouraging our success. Our preceptors, Daniel Cook, Elizabeth Davies and Jill Dupont, made real differences for us in "Perspectives," advising us on our courses, stimulating our intellectual development and evaluating our MA Papers.

Therefore, we are pleased to support the new MAPSS Preceptor Research Fund. This alumni initiative will fund small grants for current preceptors to attend scholarly meetings, purchase books and research services, and the meet dissertation expenses.

We can think of no better way to honor our preceptors than by making life a little easier for their successors, who continue today to contribute such hard work to the success of current MAPSS students and the MAPSS Program in general.

The MPRF will be formally launched at our MAPSS Chicago Area and Class of 1996 and 1997 Reunion on Friday, April 4th at 5:30 PM at the Gleacher Center, 450 N Cityfront Plaza Dr. in Chicago. We hope to see many of you there

Meanwhile, if you would like to join other MAPSS alumni in this effort, please send your check made out to "MAPSS Preceptor Research Fund" to the MAPSS Program (5828 S. University Ave. Chicago IL, 60637).

Sincerely,

Helen Kim

"It was, by far, the most academically free and intellectually stimulating environment I have ever been in. Plus, I fell in love with a fellow alum ...."

Noah Leavitt (MAPSS '97) Lawyer, Author, Community Activist

"MAPSS helped me appreciate how social science research can effectively support political campaigns. Now, as a community organizer and activist, I am constantly thinking about how to utilize credible, well-designed research projects to change public opinion and the minds of elected officials -- "
